A new English Chophouse will open in Velvet Hotel in April, and Marco might even visit...
Marco Pierre White is set to open another restaurant in Manchester, having launched his New York Italian in MediaCityUk in 2014, and the original incarnation of The River Room at The Lowry in 2001 - both of which the great chef visited at least three times.
Now MPW, as industry types call him, is ready to launch a third, an English Chophouse, on Canal Street - a stretch of Manchester that is to restaurants what Piccadilly Gardens is to couture fashion boutiques.
Mr White's English Chophouse will take over the restaurant space within Velvet Hotel (now owned by KRO - who knew?) from April and focus on steaks, grills and burgers with a bit of French... mustard, perhaps.
The press release says that the Manchester chophouse will be the second to open in the UK, following the opening of the London's Whitechapel chophouse last year... except that it won't because one opened in Birmingham in 2015 and closed in 2017.
The restaurant will be operated under licence from the chef's Black & White Hospitality business - which includes his Steakhouse Bar & Grill, Bardolino Pizzeria, New York Italian and Bellini & Espresso Bar brands.
KRO Hospitality boss, Kim Eivind Krohn, said: “To bring someone as iconic and important as Marco Pierre White to the centre of Manchester is something that will provide the area a huge boost in terms of attracting people looking for somewhere to eat and enjoy their leisure time. It should not be underestimated what it means for both the area and city.”
And it should not be underestimated what it means for Marco either, a big fat cheque for his name and very little work.
