Canteen classics – with A* cooking

After a long hot summer, a change is in the air. Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness and so on. Autumn is here and that back to school feeling is everywhere.

Nowhere more so than at The Lowry with their new Back to School afternoon tea.

Think nostalgia and feeling young again.

The new afternoon tea dishes up all the joys of school dinners in an afternoon tea – without any of the drawbacks. Of course, food has moved on since we were all wearing Clarks T-bar shoes and the menu reflects that too.

The menu involves everything from smoked turkey breast sandwiches with avocado and rocket to bananas and custard as well as treacle sponge with marmalade and butterscotch.

It takes you back to a time when there was nothing to worry about in the world other than scraped knees and felt tips drying out. Sometimes we all need that.

The Back to School afternoon tea at The Lowry costs £29.50 per person or £33 with prosecco – a sign that you’re all grown up now. Plus, £1 from every tea sold will go to the Wood Street Mission charity.

It includes sandwiches, sweet treats and freshly-baked scones served with clotted cream and preserves as well as quality loose leaf teas.

Afternoon tea at The Lowry comes highly-commended by the British Tea Council so you know you’re in for a treat.

Available every day from noon in The River Restaurant at The Lowry Hotel.
