Bolton Food and Drink Festival want to know what MCR says about the great tea vs dinner vs supper debate

As the debate regarding what you call your evening meal continues to be hotly contested, the Bolton Food and Drink Festival (BFDF) has decided to let Manchester have its say on whether it should be called ‘dinner’, ‘tea’ or ‘supper’.

Through its recently launched Instagram competition called #Instascran – where people from across the North West have been encouraged to post and tag images of home cooking in order to win prizes –  festival organisers are now asking all #Instascran participants to also add a tag indicating their geographical location and what they call their evening meal.

The festival is especially keen to hear from foodies and home cooks from Manchester to help find out how it compares to the rest of the North West in terms of which is the correct way to describe a meal eaten after 5.30pm.

Cllr John Bryne, said: “#Instascran has been a great way for the people of Bolton to get involved in the food and drink festival from their own home and we also think it’s an excellent way to find out once and for all how different parts of the region refer to their evening meal.

“I myself am firmly in the #tea camp, but I know of colleagues who insist it should be called Dinner. Through this project we hope to gauge how the wider North West public feel about it and settle the debate once and for all.”

To get involved in the #Instascran project people with an Instagram account simply need to upload a picture of their evening meal and tag it @Boltonfoodfest #Instascran along with a hashtag for their location and another for #tea, #dinner or #supper.

In addition to helping to settle the argument about tea vs dinners, the #Instascran pics with the most likes at the end of the festival will win a bumper Bolton package including a fantastic ‘specially selected’ hamper from headline sponsor Aldi, as well as some other great goodies from partners and friends of the festival.

The festival itself runs from Friday 25th August- Sunday 27th August. For more details of the hundreds of events being hosted and the celebrity chefs appearing click here.
