It's official, The Ivy is creeping into town
Applications laying out the plans for the world-famous restaurant brand The Ivy to open a restaurant in Leeds have today been approved by Leeds City Council.
As we exclusively revealed earlier on this year, Hammerson - owners of Victoria Gate and Victoria Quarter - were seeking permission for an application, sneakily codenamed "Project Holly" (get it?) which would turn three of VQ's external retail units on Vicar Lane into a one restaurant.
Though previously occupied by SpaceNK, Diesel, and Nicholas Deakin, the units from 59-63 Vicar Lane have been unsuccessfully earmarked for retail use, leaving them empty for over a year, and in some cases almost three.

The council expects that the 195-cover restaurant will have an overall positive wider impact on the Victoria Quarter, bringing additional employment to the city centre, and adding "variety and vibrancy to the Victoria Quarter and to Vicar Lane" according to the official report.
No word yet on when work is due to start on the new build, or a potential opening date for The Ivy Brasserie, which also has pending plans to open in both Harrogate and York in the near future.
