Craft beer - the cornerstone of any nutritious breakfast

Pioneering craft beer institution North Bar was one of the first bars to bring craft beer to the north of England, and now, 20 years on, a new event is breaching new frontiers and making it acceptable - no, encouraged - to have a couple of beers with breakfast.

If you thought that “holiday starts here” Stella with an airport fry-up before a 7am flight was good (I mean, it is) - North Bar Breakfast Club is going to be right up your alley; they’re bringing special breakfast-themed beers from Sheffield’s Abbeydale Brewery in just for the event, which they’ll be pairing with breakfast dishes from Laynes Espresso and donuts from small-batch bakehouse Porterhouse Cakes Co.

Based in Sheffield’s Antiques Quarter, Abbeydale have been brewing beers which “don’t take themselves too seriously” since 1996, producing over 800 casks of 9 different beers every week. Some of their breakfast-inspired beers include a coffee and donut stout brewed with actual donuts, a blueberry oatmeal breakfast sour, and a stout brewed with 30kg of Whirlow Hall Farm bacon, as well as vanilla and lactose to give it a bacon ice-cream flavour.

North Bar plans to make their Breakfast Club a regular event: own words “It’s all rather decadent, but ain’t that what Saturday mornings are all about?”. The first Breakfast Club takes place 10am Saturday 9 December. Keep an eye on their Facebook event to find out when tickets are released.
